The first in a series of children's recreation and learning centers, Bright Child- Santa Monica is designed as a kind of passage through a child's imagination: clusters of abstract volumes or "buildings" line a green rubber "road" under a blue "sky". The volumes house classrooms, party rooms and the like; their deliberately abstract nature is meant to encourage imaginative readings of their forms and create a sense of fun in the process of learning. Bright Child- Santa Monica is a joint venture with Kanner Architects.
